Office of Faculty Instructional Technology Services (FITS)

FITS, a division of the Information Technology Department's Health Informatics unit is dedicated to supporting faculty in their use of technology for teaching and assessment. Faculty development activities of the FITS program include:

  • Individual and small group trainings for education support such as Blackboard, PowerPoint presentations, electronic testing software, virtual microscopy, and virtual patients.
  • Consultation with departments, centers and course directors to arrange specific trainings.
  • “The Innovation in Education Symposium,” an annual day long program, which will be advertised widely.

The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library offers significant support for faculty teaching and research.  In addition to support from reference librarians, the library offers introductory and advanced workshops such as:

  • Bibliographic databases including PubMed and Scopus
  • Search and Reference Manager Programs (Google Scholar, RefWorks,  Endnote)
  • Educational uses of mobile tchnology

Multimedia Services

Multimedia Services provides a wide range of video, multimedia, graphic arts and photography, live and on-demand webcasts, and video teleconferencing production services to assist faculty with educational activities.  These services can help faculty assess their own teaching as well as create on-line repositories of educational curricula.

Clinical Research Center (CRC)

The goal of the CRC is to facilitate extramurally funded clinical research, with many projects addressing the application of basic science discoveries to clinical problems. Faculty development opportunities include:

M.S. Program in Clnical and Translational Research

The Masters of Science Program in Clinical and Translational Research is an interdisciplinary accredited program that provides health professionals the academic and research skills needed to be competitive for independent research.  Active junior faculty are ideal candidates for this ecducation and degree.
